About YIMO

The Youth International Math Olympiad (YIMO) is a free, online math competition organized by Next Horizon. It exists to give underrepresented students a rigorous proving ground: a place to sharpen problem-solving skills, demonstrate ability on an international stage, and build the quantitative foundation that opens doors to STEM research and careers.

YIMO features individual and optional team events, problems spanning a range of difficulties, and meaningful recognition for every level of achievement. Open to all students worldwide, free to enter.

Integrity

Proctored online via exam.net with screen & camera monitoring.

Competition Format

Divisions

  • Division 1 & 2:Open to all high school students
  • Division 3:Recommended for middle schoolers; high school students cannot compete in this division

Question Types

  • Individual:Mixed MCQ and AIME-type (answers 000–999)
  • Team Event:Optional; AIME-type problems. Compete as an individual or register as a team.
  • Tiebreakers:Hard tiebreaker round for tied competitors

Prizes

  • Cash prizes or merchandise to be distributed among top finishers
  • Special grand award dependent on sponsors (e.g. Wolfram, AoPS, Desmos)
  • Sweepstakes prize for the school with the most cumulative points

Participation Requirements

  • Valid student ID or institutional email with graduation year
  • Parental consent/acknowledgement form required
  • Two-device setup for competition integrity (camera + contest device)
